The Lowdown – Nikita RobbA quick insight into the life of The Champ and World Class Coach Nikita Robb

Nikita Robb is one of the best female surfers in the World. Hailing from South Africa, where she holds multiple national championships, Nikita approaches waves with her own homegrown style, shaped from surfing the likes of Jeffrey’s Bay. She attacks waves with the aggression of a Great White, is as strong in her turns as the proverbial Bull, but she has the heart of a Lion.

She now lives in Sri Lanka where she is also the National Champion as well as the Co-Director of the Ticket to Ride Surf House and we are stoked for our customers to announce that we will be flying her into Indonesia this season to coach on our Summer Tours. If you’re joining us in Indo or Sri Lanka, here’s a few words with the Champ:

Morning Routine: Coffee, mindfulness, dog cuddle then 5:30am wave check on the way to work!

Best wave on the planet: Gotta be either J-Bay, the right hand points on the East Coast of Sri Lanka (I just love my backhand) or this left we visit on the Bali road trip.

Tell us a story from being on the ASP World Tour: The Tour was amazing, I loved ever bit of it. I got lucky to have the Rip Curl Search event in Puerto Rico where we had fun waves and even better rum. I also ate cow’s heart and played a round of golf for Fuel Tv. I was terrible, It took me 8 goes to tee off the first whole and I had to get Steph Gilmore to give me a few tips.

Another event in New Zealand a friend and I hired a camper and explored for the first week, scoring amazing waves, sleeping in random places, getting kicked out of places, hiking, no shower etc. It was an awesome experience of the van life living before it became cool.

Tell us something nobody knows about you: I love penguins.  I’m obsessed with them, I even have a penguin tattoo.

Best thing about living in Sri Lanka: I’ve got nature and waves on my door step, monkeys run across my roof every day, adventure and surf is constantly calling.

Best thing about Indo: It’s gotta be the waves man, some of the most perfect waves you will ever surf in your life and some of the longest. That left we take the guests up the coast can go on for 500m!

Guilty pleasure: Binge-watching series – I loved Grey’s Anatomy.

Best thing about being a female surfer: Surfing is a pretty male dominated sport so it can be tough as a female sometimes. I love being able to be part of a female surfing community that is strong and resilient. We give the guys a run for their money as well. Also the community here in Sri Lanka has grown so much over the years, there’s some serious grl pwr going on out in the lineups.

One piece of advice to intermediate surfers: Don’t be scared and just go for it! Being scared is natural but use that energy to push forward rather than hold back.

Your trip in Indo will be… Zero judgement. Just about learning more about surfing, being inclusive and pushing your surfing in friendly environment amongst the most encouraging waves on the planet. Most importantly, we’ll be having a rad time in the ocean! Whilst of course eating epic Indonesia food, going on adventures, having a few night on the Bintangs, living the dream!
