Don’t listen to what they sayGo see.” – Chinese Proverb

This is my absolute favourite quote of all time. “Don’t listen to what they say. Go see.”  How can you not love it?

Everyone has their own idea/perception on events, places, barrels, girls, boys and waves. Perception is everything, because I perceived my barrel to be 10 seconds long and I had a style that was a mixture of Kelly Slater and Jordy Smith….. where in actual fact, it was probably 1 second long, with a style that would make both those pro surfers want to run and hide from the sheer sight of my butt sticking too far out, lip hitting me square on the head and a face being pulled that makes the dude from “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” look like a Men’s Health Model!

“You and everyone you love is hurtling towards the boneyard, I know you know. We all know but because it yields so few ‘likes’ on Facebook, we purr on blinkered compliance, filling our days with temporary fixes.” Another great paragraph taken from Russell Brand’s new book.

I know what you are thinking, what the hell do all these lame ass quotes have to do with Monday Morning Motivation?

Basically life is ticking away, thinking that you have enough time is the biggest illusion life can throw at you. A great example of this, is this blog, I missed the boat. It’s Tuesday already!

I wrote this yesterday morning!

Back to my point… Yesterday I was 16 years old, surfing perfect 3-4ft waves on the Bluff, Durban with the ‘goal/idea’ in mind that one day I will travel the world surfing and competing against some of the best in the most heavenly locations.

Today, (when I woke up) I am a 28 year old, living in Cape Town, working behind a laptop as the Marketing Manager for Ticket To Ride.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my job!

I have the privilege of travelling to beautiful locations in my job and in fact have visited more locations than when I surfed competitively. The point is, when I was a grom I had an attitude of, ‘Ah, I’ll train tomorrow, I’ll do some extra yoga and stretches on Friday’… before I knew it, I was “over the hill”, sitting at a friend’s braai (BBQ), sipping a cold beer telling friends and family about how well I USED to surf and I could have made a career out it!

Sure life throws you curved balls here and there, perhaps if I trained harder, stretched and did yoga, I still could be doing some form of competitive surfing. Sadly I have become “Mr King of Procrastination”, unfortunately it bit me in the butt!.

So to conclude my “wannabe” motivational blog, go and see for yourself. The world is full of wonderful places, adventure and awesome people to meet.

Don’t take my word for it. GO SEE!!
