Week 5 means we are well into our adventure of South Africa’s east coast. At this stage we found ourselves on the Wild Coast and the unexpected and spontaneous addition of Chinsta to our strip. The beautiful location just on the outskirts of East London is a must for anybody traveling to the coast. The views are incredible and the accommodation second to none on our trips.

Breakfast with a view

We only had a short two night stay before heading on to Coffee bay but we made the most of our time there, we even scored some epic waves down on our own private beach.

Coffee Bay is the most remote stop on our journey with deep African roots and heritage. Life there is still very much rural and almost everybody still lives in traditional housing. On our first night we were invited to learn more about Xhosa culture and shared a meal with a local family in their home and village

Being rural means its an open landscape with views for miles. The group did a 10km hike to the iconic Hole in the Wall to take full advantage of the surrounding area.

Surfing in Coffee Bay is a mixed bag and the conditions are ever changing, it’s probably the most scenic of places we get to surf on this trip and the daily visit from pods of dolphins really puts the icing on the cake surfing here.

The full moon rising and evening at the Hostel was a great way to spend one of our evenings there, with no light pollution in the area you can really take in the beauty of it all.

next up we’re back in the city, Durban.
