Overview

Develop the surfing skills you’ve always dreamt about!

La Pura Vida or The Pure Life is the endearing national saying you will hear and love saying all day long in Costa Rica. A proud and passionate country and rightly so, with warm waters, sensational surf and pristine beaches surrounded by tropical jungle. If that has whet your surfing appetite, then two weeks in Costa Rica and more specifically, the beach town of Santa Teresa, is the place for you.

Ticket to Ride Surf Camps in Costa Rica are set up for surfers of all abilities. They stand united in their common goal of escaping winter and being adventurous, yet focussed as they take their own level of surfing further in two weeks abroad, than they ever could with two years at home.

The team combine surf lessons matched to your ability with surf-specific yoga lessons. So whether you’re a complete beginner looking to find your surfing feet, or an intermediate / advanced surfer on the hunt for consistently warm water waves and a better technique, then Ticket to Ride has got your back with this two week Costa Rica trip!

What to Expect

A tropical surfing experience, fuelled by good food, with plenty of time to relax in between sessions with a good book.

People say that surfing in Costa Rica will make you soft. We say that four weeks of consistent surf in a tropical paradise is often exactly what you need.

Accommodation

We've rented two private apartments at Don Jon’s Surf Lodge, where the motto is “relax to the max” and relax you will. There are plenty of hammocks all over the place for a quick nap and ten beds over two apartments for a proper night’s sleep. Sleeping arrangements have been arranged on a first come, first served basis, so start the booking process now. Your morning coffee, juice and breakfast fuel is all included in the package.

Also included

Yoga Our Costa Rica Surf Camps include five yoga sessions per week led by experienced yoga instructors and is the perfect way to stretch out and unwind after a surf. Flexibility and core strength developed through yoga is also hugely beneficial to your overall surfing performance.

Deep Sea Fishing Santa Teresa has some of the best fishing in the World. Possible catches include the mighty sailfish and marlin if you’re lucky, but the most likely fish of the day would be tuna, dorado, wahoo, roosterfish, snapper and baracuda. Having spent the day out on the boat, we'll eat like kings at night by landing our catch straight on the bbq.

Snorkeling Costa Rica’s tropical reputation is not confined to the land as the outer reefs provide sanctuaries for incredible sea life. Spend the day cruising around, hopping on and off the boat armed with a trusty pair of flippers, snorkel and mask to see the underwater sights.

Waterfall Hike & Butterfly Farm Visit Hike up the beautiful Montezuma Waterfall, bathe and swim in the natural pool, visit the Butterfly farm on the walk back and top the day off with a locally brewed ale at the Butterfly Farm's Brewery!

FAQs

Got a question about this course? Here's the best place to start. If you don't find your answer here, you can request a callback or get in touch using our contact page.

A Casado, the local dish of steak / pork / chicken or fish with fries, salad, rice, beans and plantain costs $5 at most local restaurants, so the frugal traveller should budget $20 per day, while the flashier could go as high as $40. Your breakfast at Don Jons is included in the package price, as well as a morning coffee and juice.

It really doesn't matter, as the Ticket to Ride team can cater to the needs of total beginners and those of competition level rippers.

You won't need one. Not one. Nada. Surfboard hire is included in the price.

Costa Rica translates as the "Rich Coast" and has the strongest economy in Central America and is therefore more expensive than it's neighbours. Everything can be paid for in dollars and the prices of things should be more compared to California than Nicaragua. However, it is only the luxuries and non essential items that feel expensive, such as cocktails ($8), pizzas ($16) quad bike hire ($70 per day) and if you are living the Pura Vida lifestyle for one month, surfing loads, eating local fresh food and taking it easy you can live off $25 per day.

You just need to arrive in San Jose,CR on Saturday 17th February'18 (Trip 1) or Saturday 3rd March (Trip 2). We will be there to greet you in the Arrivals hall (just look for Max holding the Ticket to Ride sign). There will be pick ups throughout the day, no fixed times. We then spend the first night in San Jose, before our early morning departure on Sunday to head West to Santa Teresa!

Your departure flight needs to depart from San Jose,CR on Saturday 3rd March (Trip 1) or Saturday 17th March (Trip 2). Again, this can be at any time of the day as we will spend the Friday night in San Jose to be ready for everyone's departure on the Saturday.

All airport transfers are included in the package price. If you have any questions, just give us a call or email. Full arrival information will be provided to guests.

Holders of British, US, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and most EU passports can enter Costa Rica for a stay of 90 days without a visa. Proof of onward travel may be required when entering Costa Rica, so we suggest you take a print out of your flight details in case officials ask to see them.

All passengers flying via USA will have to clear immigration during transit. Prior to travel you must apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (USD14) under the Visa Waiver Programme. Please see www.exodus.co.uk/USVisa for more information. If you are not a UK citizen please check with your local U.S. Embassy.

There are no mandatory vaccination requirements, however, Hepatitis A vaccination is recommended. The risk of malaria is slight but you may wish to consult your GP or travel health clinic for further advice. Dengue fever is a known risk in places visited. It is a tropical viral disease spread by daytime biting mosquitoes. There is currently no vaccine or prophylaxis available for Dengue, and therefore the best form of prevention is to avoid being bitten. We recommend you take the usual precautions to avoid mosquito bites. For more info check out these websites:
