Overview

A bespoke cycling adventure through the Basque country surfing the best spots along the way.

This surf and cycle tour starts in the thick of the pine trees in SW France, picking up the spiritual path of the Camino De Santiago, taking you to untouched corners of your own pedalling paradise. The route is challenging, but achievable by anyone with a good level of general fitness. The waves can be the best in Europe. The perfect holiday for the true adventure enthusiast.

What to Expect

Hassle Free Cycling

We will cycle to each spot carrying only daily supplies. The Ticket to Ride support vehicle will carry all camping equipment, surfboards and luggage and will await us at each camp every evening with cold beers and a warm supper.

Dedicated Hospitality

You will have a dedicated team supporting your journey the whole way. Max Hepworth-Povey and William Jessup will be your cycle and surf guides for the duration. They are also quite well known and damn good at spinning yarns around a camp fire.

There will also be a chef, who's sole role is to ensure that you are nourished and satisfied on the food front. As well as a camp manager who will get the evenings camp site ready and will be driving the support vehicle.

We are even going to wash your lycra every evening so you're getting into fresh clothes every morning!

Jenny Jones

We are also pleased to announce that we have GB Olympic Slopestyle medallist and all round action sports sensation Jenny Jones joining us for the ride.

Jenny is Britain’s most successful snowboarder, and she has the medal to prove it after bagging an Olympic Medal on the snow in 2014, elevating her to National Hero status.

Since then she has been working with Ticket to Ride on Girl’s Only Snowboard Camps out in Meribel and now she's joining us on our peddle powered excursion through the Basque Country.

Jenny recently completed the Tour of Wessex Sportive, which is 322 miles in three days and is in training for the notoriously tough one day 100 mile Nelson’s Tour De Test Sportive.

So basically you’re in safe hands.

Accommodation

The accommodation will be set up for you every day upon your arrival to the camp site. The private tents are spacious and comfortable, with a top of the range camp bed, duvet and pillow, as well as a belongings box and reading lamp.

All meals

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner & Snacks - These will be made and prepared by our experienced ticket to ride team to make sure you have plenty of energy for the trip, including one evening meal out in Hossegor and a celebratory meal in Bilbao Old Town.

Surfing Equipment

We have access to a quiver of brand new Soft Tech boards and will bring the right board for you. We will also bring a wetsuit in your size, although we do expect to be surfing in shorts most days...

Bike Hire

Good quality bikes are available to hire for £150 for the duration. Please let us know if you require a bike when booking.

days

TimeLine

Here you'll find a day by day breakdown of your course.

  • Arrival in Bordeaux 1 Day

After your arrival into Bordeaux you will be transferred to your first camp site in Lacanau to meet the rest of your fellow Riders and maybe even get an evening surf in!

  • Lacanau to Biscarosse Plage 1 Day

60 miles - Wake up surf, cycle all day, chilled camp vibes in the evening. 60 miles may sound like a long slog for day one but it's a flat route through the start of the beautiful Landes region of SW France.

  • Biscarosse Plage to Mimizan Plage 1 Day

58 miles - Here we will go inland slightly, but you will still be breathing in the fresh sea air mixed in with the pine trees for most of the day. Upon arrival in Mimizan, we will surf til sunset.

  • Mimizan Plage to Seignosse 1 Day

45 miles - Now you will really start to feel the surf culture in the air. It would be rude not to start the day with a 'dawnie' followed by a flat 45 miles in the saddle and hopefully a sunset surf in Seignosse.

  • Rest Day in Hossegor 1 Day

Hossegor is the capital of European Surfing and you will see why...

  • Seignosse to San Sebastian 1 Day

55 Miles - After cycling through some of the most beautiful French and Spanish towns you can ever imagine we arrive in the unlikely city of sin. A night of tapas is well earned after this leg of the journey.

  • San Sebastian to Lekeitio 1 Day

45 miles (very hard ride) - we up the ante here as we cycle from sunrise to sunset along some of the most undulating roads in the continent taking on some serious mountains. Make sure you have seconds of the porridge...

  • Lekietio to Bilbao 1 Day

33 Miles (hard ride) - The crescendo is grueling but noticeably shorter than the previous days epic effort. We aim for a dawnie surf in Lekietio, the a day in the saddle before a final night of rich Spanish cuisine and World-class red wine. When in Rome!

  • Final Day 1 Day

Transfers - Sadly all good things must come to an end, but you will need to stop after this epic surf and cycle adventure. We will be running transfers to Bilbao airport all day.
