TimeLine

Here you'll find a day by day breakdown of your course.

  • Welcome to Sri Lanka - 14th October 1 Day

Upon arrival you will be greeted at the airport by your Trip Leader and driven to the Surf Camp in Arugam Bay (8 hour drive through the hill country). Here you will be introduced to the team and given time to settle in before we tuck in to dinner and drinks 'Sri Lanka style'. You will need to arrive in Colombo in time for one of the two airport transfers: 11am and 2pm departures on the 14th October.

  • Surf coaching, yoga and exploration 6 Days

Improve your surfing day in, day out and reap the physical and mental benefits of practicing yoga. Make the most of your surfing down-time by discovering Sri Lanka's flavourful food, welcoming people and timeless ruins. Additional activities and excursions will also be included such as the Pottuvil Lagoon Tour and a visit to the Yala National Park. On the 21st October we drive West to Ahangama. Stock up on rotis for the journey through the most beautiful parts of the country and glimpse incredible jungle scenery! The journey itself is an adventure and without fail we’ve spotted elephants casually doing their thing on the side of the road every time.

  • Ahangama Surf Camp 9 Days

10-nights of relaxation and exploration awaits, including daily surf lessons, sunrise yoga sessions, video analysis and additional activities. Just like in Arugam, we are based right by the waves, so you can surf as much as you like out of coaching times as well! We will arrange a couple of nights out to Mirissa, and a visit to the fort town of Galle further down the coast.

  • Departure day - 31st October 1 Day

On your final night we will cook up a big BBQ to celebrate an awesome trip, and hopefully be up early to enjoy one last dawnie surf! Feeling refreshed, flexible and ripping on a surfboard, the team will then take you to the airport for the final farewell. Your flight can depart anytime on this date as the transfer is under 3 hours and we will run several transfers throughout the day.

FAQs

Got a question about this course? Here's the best place to start. If you don't find your answer here, you can request a callback or get in touch using our contact page.

In Ahangama we have perfect fun green wave beach-breaks for learners. There are also more challenging reef-breaks for our more advanced surfers, often overhead waves with offshore wind until 11am, then light winds in the middle of the day. The weather is glorious, tropical shorelines offer a beautiful backdrop to your surf sessions. This is also the 'shoulder season' to the peak tourist period, so we avoid the busy crowds.

In Arugam Bay the surf is usually smaller in October as it is the start of the season, so expect fewer crowds. The wave still breaks perfectly every day, meaning it's a fantastic introduction to point break reef surfing.

Flights need to be booked into Colombo International airport, which is also known as Bandaranaike and Katunayake airport. There are direct flights with Sri Lankan Airlines from London Heathrow to Colombo airport.

The transfer to Arugam Bay (Stop 1) is about 8 hours through the tropical hill country. We will have two transfers running on the 14th October (Arrival day) at 11am and 2pm. So please arrive by then.

The transfer from Ahangama (Stop 2) back to Colombo airport on the 31st October (Departure day) is under 3 hours, so your flight can depart anytime that day and we will run about 4 transfers throughout the day to accommodate everyone.

Around £100 - £300, but will totally depend on how much you like to drink as it's not included in the price.

Your breakfast, lunch and 5 of 10 dinners are all included in Ahangama (Stop 2), and your breakfast and lunch are included at your week in Arugam (Stop 1) - so you don't have to worry too much about budgeting for your food. A meal in Sri Lanka can range from as little as £1 for a simple rice or curry, while a fresh tuna steak and a large Lion beer will set you back about £5.

The majority of surfers on our trips are beginners with minimal surfing experience. Sri Lanka is the perfect place to learn with super fun waves and friendly beach breaks but we can also cater to more advanced surfers. Our Trip Leaders are very experienced surfers and coaches that tailor their coaching to your skill level, so you'll leave Sri Lanka an infinitely better surfer than when you arrived.

None! Sri Lanka is a tropical paradise where wetsuits aren't required. We provide rash vests to offer some protection from the sun - just don’t forget your swim wear and plenty of sun cream! The surf camp also has a range of surfboards which you can try out throughout your stay, hire is included in the price. For more advanced surfers, you may wish to bring your own.

My TTRide trip to Sri Lanka was just insane! The country is absolutely incredible, all of the people I met were super fun and friendly and my surfing ability has come on so much. I can't wait for my next TTRide adventure!

Fantastic trip and a great atmosphere throughout the entire time. I’ve met so many great people on this trip, with whom I hope to stay in touch and reconnect in the future. I was lucky enough to be put in a single room, which was a bonus and made a huge difference to the overall experience. Great vibes at Sion Surf camp, amazing time and great staff there; their BBQs are legendary by now. Everything was well organised before the trip and during the entire stay, and Max and Josh made sure everything went smooth, were very responsive to anything we have raised with them, or whenever we have asked any questions and also well connected with our group. It was quite intense first two weeks, packed with yoga, surf, and more surf, but in a good sense. I loved that we could see our videos and photos from each day trip and see our progress and receive feedback. I have never had that before in any of my surf trips (even organised ones) and it really makes a huge difference to improve, if you can see yourself and get a feedback on your surfing. Also Olly and Rodger our local surf instructors were very nice and wanted to ensure we had fun and catching waves, even when the swell was small. I can say the same about Fasal from Arugambay, who gave us very useful tips before each session. It was definitely one of my best surf trips, I somehow magically managed to progress to much shorter board, I thought it would take me another two years to ride! It was a great holiday, one of the best.
